FreshBooks pricing in the U.S.: client limits and annual cost

FreshBooks' U.S. plan choice depends on billable-client count and the bookkeeping features the business needs. Its 2026 price FAQ lists USD base prices of $23/month or $248.40/year for Lite, $43/month or $464.40/year for Plus, and $70/month or $756/year for Premium. The annual prices reflect the 10% discount FreshBooks states. Prices checked October 22, 2026; offers, taxes, add-ons, and processing costs are separate.

Base price by plan

U.S. planMonthly list priceAnnual billSavings vs. 12 monthly bills
Lite$23$248.40$27.60
Plus$43$464.40$51.60
Premium$70$756.00$84.00

Savings = 12 × monthly price − annual bill. Tax and optional services are excluded. If a promotion appears, keep it in a separate scenario: a temporary discount changes early bills, but the renewal can return to the regular price.

Watch the client limit

FreshBooks' U.S. pricing page lists Lite for five billable clients, Plus for 50, and Premium for unlimited billable clients. The vendor says active and archived clients count toward the limit. It says deleting an inactive client frees a slot while the records remain accessible; confirm the current behavior before adopting that process.

A solo designer with six active clients cannot treat Lite's price as the relevant cost unless the client-limit rules work for them. Moving from Lite to Plus changes the annual base cost by $216 ($464.40 − $248.40). The fair comparison is the lowest plan that meets your actual requirements, not two entry prices with different caps.

Add team and payment costs separately

Count everyone who needs account access and verify the current extra-user price and permissions. For online payments, list card, ACH, and other methods actually offered; read FreshBooks' current payment-fee terms. A subscription price does not include processing costs unless the vendor explicitly says it does.

Annual total = subscription + required seats/add-ons + estimated payment fees + applicable tax

Keep fees separate from software cost because they depend on transaction volume, mix, and current processor terms.

Which plan should you inspect?

  • Lite: a low-volume business with five or fewer billable clients, if the tier includes the reports it needs.
  • Plus: a business approaching the client cap or needing features FreshBooks lists only from Plus upward, including several accounting reports.
  • Premium: a business that needs unlimited billable clients and can justify the higher recurring price.

These are screening rules. Features and client limits can change; check the current plan table before paying.
